First United Methodist Church of Pine Bluff is not just a building, we are part of the community. Our doors are open for those that need a safe place to worship, learn, and grow. The children and youth of Pine Bluff are important to us and that's why we are a site for the Boys and Girls Club of Jefferson County (boysgirlsclubjc.org )and we host S.O.A.R- Students of Achievement and Responsibility. Both are after-school programs as well as summer day camps.
FUMC,PB partners with Ozark Mission Project (ozarkmissionproject.org). Each summer, high school students and adult volunteers stay here as they reach out into the county to help those who need a little extra help. The campers learn invaluable skills as they build wheelchair ramps, paint houses and do minor repairs all in the name of Jesus Christ.
QuadW Missional Summer Internships (quadmi.org )provides an intensive 8 week internship for college students who are seeking to learn about the mission field and build upon their spiritual journey. Each summer, these interns live in community at FUMC,PB while working in the area building relationships with families and each other. Our hope is that each person involved will receive and welcome the love of Jesus Christ. That by being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, the interns are strengthened in their own faith and take the skills they've learned back to college and beyond in their adult lives.
Community Garden- Our garden is a response to the Arkansas Conference's initiative 200,000 Reasons which hopes to diminish food insecurities in Arkansas. By growing fresh fruit and vegetables- our neighbors and members are helping to provide nutritious food for their own tables and for those who don't have access to them. The garden also serves as a training ground for future gardeners as each of our ministry partners have beds and receive hands on experiences led by our members. By seeing their hard work come to fruition, our hope is that a "seed" will be planted and that each child realizes that not all food comes from a plastic container or cardboard box.
